Anxiety illness is more popularly known as GAD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder. This is the most common anxiety disease found in approximately 5-6% of the population. This kind of anxiety is different from normal anxiousness due to its uncontrolled nature and can drastically affect one's life.

Doctors do not diagnose anxiety illness in their patients at once. It takes quite a long time to actually get a hold of the disease. Patients spend months and years paying visit to their doctors, before it's finally confirmed that they are suffering from anxiety illness. There are many reasons for anxiety illness being so hard to diagnose. Here are some of those reasons discussed:

Most of the people suffering from anxiety illness are not even aware of the fact that they are suffering from it, they feel it's all normal and there is nothing unusual about it. They assume that this is how everyone goes through. Though they are right to some extent, as anxiety is normal for a human being but when it crosses the line of normality, it becomes very important to visit a doctor and talk to them.

Some people feel, as they were born that way as natural worriers, it cannot really be possible that there's something wrong with them and so any doctor cannot help them in any way. It is a fact that just half of the people with anxiety disorders see a doctor. A few of the symptoms of anxiety illness are very much alike to the symptoms of various other mental problems, like depression or anxiety disorder. So a doctor might consider that the patient has any of those disorders. Moreover, there are many people suffering from anxiety illness who also have other mental health disorders at the same time, so the chances are, the doctor might diagnose some other problem without even realizing that you may be having anxiety illness.

Anxiety illness often results in real aches and pains, so a doctor may only try to find a physical reason behind the problem and quite possibly overlook the chances of a mental health problem. The doctor might take the physical symptoms as a sign of heart disease or any other physical problems.

Especially for the older adults in society the diagnosis of the anxiety illness or the anxiety disorder is very much tough luck as they consider mental illness as a stigma. Due to which, it becomes hard for older folks to speak about it. And since personal interview is the only available solution till date, no therapies can be applied, till the history of the patient is known to the doctor. As a result a lot of older people suffering from anxiety illness are being treated wrongly and appallingly and the reason is seen to be their age. However researches have started to look closely at this field of treatment so that some excellent therapies or some techniques may be developed.

Because of the above mentioned reasons diagnosis of anxiety illness is still hard to do by Doctors.
